Director of Content Marketing

Statement is seeking a content director to join our growing creative agency. You’ll be responsible for ensuring content excellence across our lineup of socially conscious B2B-focused clients, working at the intersection of business and editorial to deliver practical, effective content solutions. The right candidate is an exceptional communicator, highly organized planner and enthusiastic collaborator.

This role will include a blend of content production and direction, making it ideal for a senior individual contributor or young director-level candidate eager to build their management skills.

This is a three-month contract position with potential to extend. We are a remote team with occasional collaboration in our Chicago-area office. To be considered, please send your resume, salary requirements and your three best campaigns to

What you’ll need:

  • A background in copywriting
  • A minimum of 5 years of digital content marketing experience, ideally in an agency environment
  • Proven experience in building, maintaining and optimizing content calendars based on evolving client needs and marketing insights
  • A command of the full content creation process, from discovery and research through writing and QA
  • Demonstrated versatility in creating and refining content, from short-form social posts to long-form white papers and reports
  • Familiarity working in big, complex brands that require big ideas as well as execution precision
  • A gift for turning technical concepts into content that people actually want to read
  • A B2B content focus; experience in tech, product marketing and financial services preferred
  • A high comfort level working in a virtual creative environment, including Asana, GSuite and Slack
  • Strong client communication and presentation skills and the ability to talk about your work with confidence
  • The ability to think quickly on your feet, adapt to changing client needs and balance multiple workstreams efficiently in a fast-turn, high-volume production environment
  • A deep and abiding love of Associated Press style (and ability to root out copy errors in any document)
  • Experience managing and editing the work of other copywriters or editors

What you’ll do for us:

  • Lead the planning, production and optimization of content across assigned client accounts, working closely with our project management and creative teams to ensure all content is impactful, brand-adherent, delivered on time and based on channel best practices
  • Develop and maintain content calendars for clients and generate ideas based on brand objectives, competitor research and past performance
  • Immerse yourself in client brands to create cohesive content marketing programs and drive continuous improvement in brand consistency and quality over time
  • Produce content in multiple formats, including web content, blogs, emails and social media
  • Provide constructive feedback to other writers and editors (both internal and freelance) to uphold all client standards
  • Manage social media accounts on an as-needed basis, including identifying opportunities for off-page engagement
  • Work closely with our design team to conceptualize content that plays nicely with design across all digital formats
  • Lead occasional brand messaging and positioning exercises for clients under the direction of our Head of Content
  • Develop and maintain brand and editorial standards for clients as needed
  • Compile monthly social analytics and draw insights to shape content strategy
  • Identify priorities and manage multiple deadlines independently

What we’ll do for you:

  • Give you the chance to build your creative and leadership skills
  • Encourage you to learn, experiment and bring fresh ideas to the table
  • Trust you to own your work and measure success by outputs, not inputs
  • Never ask you to work all weekend
  • Support you as a professional and a person – we’re a friendly and focused group of creatives who work hard and have fun together

You’ll fit in here if you’re:

  • A go-getter (you don’t sit around to be told what to do, and a little ambiguity doesn’t scare you)
  • A creative at heart (everyone always thought you’d grow up to be a writer)
  • Responsible (people always liked working on group assignments with you in school)
  • Curious (you start with “why?”)
  • Meticulous (you always notice misspelled words in emails)
  • Honest, empathetic and kind (You give credit where credit is due. You celebrate others. You deliver constructive criticism and embrace feedback as an opportunity to continue growing and learning)
  • Eager to contribute to discussions that advance diversity, equity and inclusion within our work and as individuals
